Martial Arts for Self Defense
Our students learn and achieve higher levels of self confidence, improved concentration, respect for self and others and increased self discipline through the practice and training of Martial Arts. Students enhance stamina and muscle tone while learning coordination and weight control, and develop balance and awareness in a safe and healthy environment. Through years of training we have combined modern teaching methods with traditional Martial Arts techniques to create a system that teaches effective methods of self defense and self improvement in all areas of life.
Some of the topics that will be explored in class from the Martial Arts Styles of Karate, Kempo, Jujutsu, Tai Chi Ch'uan, Taijutsu include:
- Dakentaijutsu - The art of striking. Hand strikes, kicks, knees, elbows and more
- Taihenjutsu - The art of evasion teaches falls, rolls and other body movements
- Meiso - Methods of meditation, breathing techniques and visualization
- Koppojutsu - The art of bone strengthening and breaking
- Taisabaki - The training of body management and repositioning for favorable outcomes
- Kyushojutsu - The art of pressure points for defense and repair
- Jutaijutsu - The art of grappling consists of escapes, throws, locks, chokes and holds
- Budo - The way of war explores philosophies, strategies and tactics for conflict resolution both externally and internally.
- Bukijutsu - This art utilizes many traditional (and non-traditional) weapons including:
- Bojutsu - Long staff (pool stick)
- Jojutsu - Short staff (walking cane)
- Kenjutsu - Sword (umbrella)
- Nawajutsu - Rope / Chain (belt)
- Juttejutsu - Jutte (club/bottle)
- Tanto-jutsu - Dagger (pen)
- And many other weapons
All classes are taught by the head instructor and are kept small and personal to ensure that each and every student receives the direct attention they deserve. Keeping the classes small also helps to create a close-knit group that supports and encourages one another to train hard and excel on all levels.
Separate Tai Chi Chuan classes are also offered, in a similar manner. The many aspects of Tai Chi are explored, from the health benefits, to the martial aspects, to meditative philosophies, as well as, how to adapt what is taught in class, into your everyday life.
